About This Blog
Breast implants are not safe, yet demand for this invasive cosmetic surgery continues to skyrocket. The reasons for this are many, varied and complex, involving fundamental questions about the meaning of beauty, self worth and the role of women in a supposedly enlightened 21st century society.
This blog is a space to explore these issues — to uncover insights and wisdom about a surgical procedure that is elective and hazardous, yet is quintessentially feminine and often considered life changing and empowering. This blog is to help two activists understand better the social environment they are fighting in and who they are fighting for as they work to make implants safe. This blog explores breast implants in the context of everything, including body image, feminism, women’s health, plastic surgery, parenting and media.
