15 Reasons Not To Get Breast Implants

I found this great blog today called “Woman Reproduction Health.” Today’s topic was breast implants, and I just wanted to share this bloggers top 15 reasons for not getting breast implants.
1. According to the FDA, up to 10 percent of saline implants deflate in less than five years. In addition, for each year the implant spends in the body, more and more complications in it become prevalent.
2. Usually, patients with breast cancer tend to have more complications than do patients with no health problems. In fact, it is a very risky time for a breast cancer patient to perform breast implants.
3. According to the study made by the National Institute of Medicine, 40 percent of patients who’ve gotten breast implants had to go back for another operation because of the bad faults that had arisen in them.
4. According to one of the studies, 20 percent of women who performed breast implants had silicone from their implants later on to migrated to elsewhere in their body. What’s even more interesting is that doctors are aware of this yet lie that their breast implants have ruptured.
5. Mentor, a study made by the maker of saline breast implants, found that almost 30 percent of implants put in the body had to be taken back out due to bad side effects that arouse.
6. Even though it is seldom, it is still important to put into consideration that the complications brought about by the breast implants can be so severe that not only the breasts would end up getting amputated, but the lungs and the heart are affected by it also. Worst case scenario: You can die by this.
7. One of the newest implant contains vegetable oil. Thus, at some point, that implant will spoil, and since it will spoil, it will attract many microorganism, posing harm to your health.
8. Fortunately, this type of implant is not approved in the U.S. and U.K., but if you are a European patient being offered a choice of having oil-filled implants, you better watch out, because if the oil in the breast leaks into the body, it will absorb calcium, and once it enters the bloodstream, it will create a fat emboli that could kill you without any warning.
9. You will be unable to have health insurance coverage for many breast-related illness.
10. Dr. Jack A. Friedland of Scottsdale says about the breasts having implants, “If a doctor tells you they don’t have complications, they’re either not operating or they’re lying to you.”
11. A plethora of doctors performing breast implants on the patients do not have a proper qualification. Most of the states allow anyone to perform it, as long as they have a medical degree, and sell plastic surgery.
12. There have been cases where doctors have told their patients that they look great when they should instead be saying that they should be going to the emergency room.
13. Breasts with implants in them feel like cement blocks with barely a half inch of skin. This does not seem adequate if you want healthy breasts.
14. Surgery on breasts damages nerves and the sensation of the skin, not to mention the effects are irreversible.
15. Despite the fact that many operations today compensate for the cement effects, some side effects can be lethal to the extent where a reoperation is imperative.
A lot of great points were brought up that I had never thought about before. I have a list of 40 reasons not to get breast implants on my website, and this blog gave me even more reasons to add to my long and growing list!

I dont know if the women on here have seen this video, but I found something called 50 Women made by a woman who wanted to show the beauty of natural women. The site is fiftywomen.com. The background info is there and it was shot in NYC with many types of women volunteering to be filmed. I havent seen the video but figure if you havent heard of it maybe you should take a look and get the word out.

Here’s another reason not to get breast implants. They get in the way of mammograms. I just had my own yearly check-up, and took the opportunity to talk to the technician about her experience with implants. Basically, she can’t see squat through them and wonder why implanted women bother with them at all, and why insurance companies bother paying for them! Implants getting in the way of cancer detection is a huge enough problem that the FDA recommends MRIs every two years for detection, which implanted women need to pay for out of pocket. I think many women don’t know this, or if they do, just don’t bother to get the MRI exams because they’re, like, $2,000 a pop.

I have often wondered how many women with implants avoid mammograms altogether, as the process itself could cause a costly rupture. I could see many women thinking that the mammogram already misses more cancer than it catches, so why even bother with a procedure that could cause them to have an additional surgery? I’m so glad that my first mammogram will take place minus breast implants.

It’s been three years since my breast implants were implanted and there has been zero problems since day one. None of the problems mentioned to date. I do believe much of the problems with breast implants is related to implant size and the amount of breast tissue relative to implant size. Today, the typical implant size is well over 300cc with 400cc being more typical today. My implants were 275cc which is well under typical and considered quite small. I had a good amount of breast tissue, an excellent surgeon, proper and attentive recovery process and procedures. I did a LOT of research on the procedure and worked closely with my surgeon for my specific procedure and ended up with very natrual looking, well proportioned breast. Even the mammogram tech had no idea I had implants until I told her. Breast implants can be a good cosmetic surgical procedure, but women who under go this procedure should consider far more than just getting the largest boobies and strictly focused on bra cup size which almost always results in problems and fake looking boobies. I got to admit, breast implants can be a fun and nice beauty accessory

glad you havent had problems rupunzel. i have met many women with small implants that have been very sick. i dont think any beauty accessory is worth almost dying for, like i almost did. i dont think it is a fun risk either. i guess you don’t know this untill you have been on the other side though like we have. i hope u the best.

Hi Rupunzel,
Sounds like you are one of the lucky ones! Not everyone will become ill but implants will not last a lifetime and will need to be replaced after about 10 years if not sooner.
I have met and helped many sick women, guided them in the right direction and provided accurate information for them so they could get a proper explant. I can tell you for sure that not all women have big implants. Some of these women have very small implants, 275cc’s and some even smaller! They are just as sick as someone that would react to the implants and have say 700cc’s. I just think that some of us become ill and others do not. Has nothing to do with size.
I had 350cc’s and I did alot of research and had one of the best doctors in my area to do the augmentation. They looked real even though they were saline and I had no complications. So imagine after 5 years becoming totally disabled….I had no idea it was my implants.
I’m not sure how long you have had your implants but I would be aware of the dangers as it can hit you at any time.

Rupunzel,
Three years after I had my implants put in I would have said the same thing as you. But think about this, If you are say 25 years old and you live to be 70-80 years old, your implants will be 45-50 years old. They WILL rupture and when they do, You may or may not have the money to do a darn thing about it and the manufacturer will take no responsibility for it.

This is very sad. I am a bit surprised that surgeons are playing “dumb”. Every surgeon knows that breast implants, whether silicone or saline, will eventually burst. It is NOT new information but part of their immunology studies. The reason is that breast implants are “foreign invaders” inside the body. It is the job of the macrophages to attack foreign invaders with antigens, antibodies, toxins, etc. This may explain for some of the accounted autoimmune diseases that can occur in breast implants.
Secondly, when a surgeon makes an incision, women should realize that the surgeon is “killing” the surrounding tissue. Ask the surgeon to explain about wound healing, scar formation, and what permanent tissue damage means.
