Why an OC Plastic Surgeon does not prefer Silicone Breast Implants
I found this blog along with a You Tube video today that I thought everyone might find interesting. It is from a board certified plastic surgeon in Orange County by the name of John Di Saia. Dr. Di Saia explains why he does not prefer Silicone Breast Implants. He says
“I do not believe that silicone gel is dangerous per se, but local tissue reactions to silicone gel implants are not the same as with their saline counterparts. I have produced a few short videos to show what happens inside some patients with silicone gel implants over time. We just do not know to what extent this may happen with newer generation silicone gel implants. It has not in my experience happened to the same extent with saline-filled implants. Patients need to make a choice when they choose breast implants. The choice is really deciding on a level of comfort with silicone gel. It is the reason that in my practice many patients still choose saline.”

While I find it admirable that Dr. Di Saia is pointing out and admitting to one of the many many problems with silicone breast implants, I don’t believe he is correct in saying that these types of problems won’t happen with the saline implants. When my saline breast implants were removed, I had extensive scar tissue that had formed around my implant. My explanting surgeon had to scrape away the scar tissue which included my own natural breast tissue. Women need to understand that these problems do not just happen with the silicone breast implants, they happen universally with ALL breast implants. This is because the body is trying to protect itself from the foreign object that has invaded it. Saline breast implants are NO DIFFERENT then the silicone implants because the envelope of a saline breast implant is made from the the same materials as a silicone implant.
I agree Krista. I know that women can develop a thick capsule surrounding saline implants as well. CC (Capsular Contracture) happens with saline as well as with silicone gel implants.
This woman had her saline implants for 8 years and look at the capsules that were surrounding those implants. They are very, very thick.

i almost went to this surgeon. ironic huh that i got sick from silicone. i used to regret it but i now know that saline could have been just as dangerous or even worse though. i wonder if he really doesn’t know this.

It was a good thing I hadn’t eaten anything before watching that vid. I also found the good doctor’s use words rather curious & telling when he said — ”It has not in my experience happened *TO THE SAME EXTENT* with saline-filled implants.” In other words, IT HAPPENS with saline implants, TOO! Can we have some Wisdom, PLEASE?!?!?

yes women with saline breast implants, the capsules come out calcified too!!!!!!!the only difference to me is NONE!!there harmful, deadly toxic devices, regardless.aprox 30 thousand women a year are getting their breast implants removed, like sally j. raphel said something like whats the hysteria? ocbody doc i have a ? for you…what happens in your thought, your words, when silicone leaves the capsules, theres vaculated pockets where silicone was once was, where does it go and what is the response on a human body?its all over my lungs and perodically comes to my arotic arch …my body pops so loud y joints and i think im like the tin an w/o oil.ouch!im glad you did the you tube vieo, thank you , but could you do one on saline?could you show that women have mold and bacteria in their saline implants?that they too are totally disabled from saline breast implants.the craziest part is how this effects your unborn child..wow…when youre a mom, disabled, fighting for your life and holding a slip for a brain mri in your hands for your 4 year old, stating possible silicone in mothers womb…by a renouned nuerologist that just examned your beautiful child…sorry im not trying to bash you at all, this is how you make a living and youre not told the truth by the FDA.im sure you do alot of wonderful surgeries to help people, children, burn,accident victims,im just sick from breast implants.do you think everyone should be tested for hla-b27 antigen, before getting breast implants/ i might have it wrong, i suffer with brain and nuerlogical disorders from the chemicals in breast implants…god bless

btw yes i had alot of calcification in my breast and in y scar tissue in just 6 short years of dwell time.
