Do implants have an expiration date?

This article was intriguing to me because throughout my sickness, I have met MANY women who got sick from leaking saline in their implants. First of all, the article says “your implants will eventually degrade and have to be removed” - which is funny because my surgeon and most surgeons, I think - don’t even mention that our implants will be replaced one day. Shouldn’t this be a big part of the pre-op discussion?
The thing that really bothered me was “In the case of saline implants, even a degraded and leaking breast implant will not necessarily have to be removed unless the patient chooses to for cosmetic reasons, as saline leaks have not been shown to cause any serious health risks.” - WOW!! When will all of the women who are sick from leaky, moldy saline be heard and at least part of a statistic and a risk?!?!?

Wow! They really are trying to sugar-coat it aren’t they? Implants last 16 years…sometimes more??? HAHAHAHAHA! What a joke that is! MOST saline implants rupture within 5 years! Mine only lasted 3 years! I can’t even believe that they’d even suggest a woman leave her leaking/degrading/ruptured implants in her body! Are you kidding me! Dr. Placik obviously has NO IDEA what he is talking about!

Saline drops for your eyes have expiration dates, and I would put money on hospital saline drips also have expiration dates. Gee, I wonder what implant manufacturers know about keeping saline fresh forever that Bausch and Lomb doesn’t know!

Pre-op saline breast implant consulation of 2001: My world-class (seriously, he was) plastic surgeon told me, “The only reason you’ll need another operation is if you want to go bigger or you want silicone implants put in.” Misleading, right?

Seriously, I was told that I’d be laying in my coffin with perky boobs. This was my PS’s way of describing how long the saline implants would last. NOT! I was completely disabled 5 years later.
Then again, to give him some credit, after 8 years of having the implants and finding out just why I was so ill, I attempted suicide so I would say that my PS could have been right about that statement!
Suicide and implants is another discussion entirely but very real and its not happening because the person would have done it anyway but because of the chemicals in the implants that affect the entire body causing (in my case) severe depression.

oh thats wrong! i have a friend with a ruptured saline sitting in her chest, im sure its quite the breeding ground, it causes her excruciating pain. she didnt think this would happen so soon and doesnt have the finances to get this empty silicone shell still degrading out of her body.her ps passed away.it has folded some and shifted. yes theres a shelf life i thought was always 2 years and this article states different!? yes saline iv bags have an experation date in hospitals…very misleading!!!!
