Hello Jessica,

My heart really goes out to you. You are right, I did not have to deal with this type of pressure when I was your age but that doesn't mean that kids didn't make fun of me. Back then, the last thing on any young teenager's mind was getting breast implants. Back then you were made fun of if you didn't have nice hair or you were too thin or too fat or even if your legs were longer than the average.

So with me being very, very thin and taller than most kids my age, I was called all kinds of things. Not to even mention I had crooked teeth. That was a huge thing back then. All my friends had braces and I didn't so I know what it is like to be made fun of for not measuring up. However, there is one very big difference and that is that I never once thought of killing myself because I was ridiculed by the other kids. I did suffer from depression all my life and I can tell you that it became worse after I had my breasts augmented. I believe that the chemicals affect the brain. So if you are thinking that bigger breasts will cure your depression, you might just be wrong as it could become worse.

I'm very worried for you and I do think that you should see a doctor to see if you can get some help. I eventually did that when I was in my 20's.

I do not have children but if you were my child, I would not allow you to have implants but I would seek out a doctor for you to see if someone could convince you that you are beautiful regardless of breast size.

I'm not sure what has happened to this world. I never thought I'd be trying to convince a 15 year old that her breast size does not define her beauty. This just breaks my heart. You break my heart.

Are you familiar with Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Anniston? Do you think they are beautiful? I sure do and they do not have big breasts. How about Kate Hudson. She is stunning and about the most flat chested actress in Hollywood. She loves her body as she flaunts her small breasts every chance she gets. Do you know why? She has self confidence and self esteem and realizes that breast implants probably are not the answer for her. I suspect her upbringing gave her the self confidence she has today but that is just a guess.

Please take care of yourself and start looking at beautiful women that are small breasted. There are plenty out there.

Sending hugs,
beth

Amber,

You speak of self respect. I think maybe a better word would be self esteem. Maybe you should try and work on that.

There is so much pressure put on women to look a certain way, no wonder there are so many young girls and women out there that don't feel like they measure up.

As for your comment on being the odd one out. Yes, I know exactly how that feels. I experienced it for many years due to lack of self esteem. I made the mistake of getting breast implants and would do anything to go back and reverse my decision.

You are so young, you aren't even finished developing yet. Your body is going through so many changes at such a young age.

I would give it some time. After all, your health is the most important thing. If you don't have that, it doesn't matter how large your breasts are.

Breast implants can make you so ill that you wish you were dead. I'd do anything to go back and be able to reverse my decision as it was the absolute worst decision I've ever made in my life.

Please do some research. You will find out what can happen to you. You can read my personal story at www.toxicbreastimplants.org

Amber,

Why do you think that only girls with breasts can be "accepted"? I think there's something wrong with the girls you hang out with. Look at Keira Knightley. She's flat as a board, and look where she's at now. Or how about Kate Hudson, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock? They prove that women can be considered incredibly beautiful regardless of their chest size. Could you be focusing on breasts as a symbol for other things you are unhappy about?

I hope you don't get the implants. First of all, your breasts will continue to grow until your mid-twenties, so you have no idea whether you will need implants or not. Also, it costs thousands of dollars. You have to replace them every 7 to 10 years for the rest of your life, which will be thousands of dollars every time. In between, you have to get MRI exams every 2 - 3 years to make sure they haven't ruptured and to improve breast cancer detection. Each time will cost you thousands of dollars. Insurance does not cover any of this, so this is money you have to pay yourself, which you could use on your wedding, your house, new car, babies...

Finally, the most important reason of all is that you are really risking your health. Please read our friend Kacey's story here. Kacey got hers when she was 19. MTV did a whole show on her.

Im 15 Years Old & Am flat chested. You say that parents who purchase implants for a 15 year old girl should be considered a child abuser. I completely disagree, my mother has considered this for me because she knows the pain i am going through, all the girls in my year have breasts and i feel socialy demoralised and depressed. I have been to doctors and they have done nothing what is the problem with giving a yound girl some self respect? Have you been through the trauma of being the odd one out? Try and see it from the other persons point of view.

Karey,

I think every Mother should teach their daughters to love their body as it will give you confidence in later years. I know my experience growing up was much different. The kids in school used to make fun of me. I seemed to tower over all the other kids and was so thin that I was constantly made fun of. I remember my Mother saying 'You just wait, they will one day envy you for being so tall and thin'. I don't think I was ever convinced of that! LOL

Mary: I hope that we can some day remove ourselves from that barbie doll consciousness!
